Eric Thomas also known as (ET) is a Hip-Hop Preacher, an author, and a motivational speaker. He was born on 3rd September 1970 in Chicago Illinois and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He was born to a single teenage mother and after various arguments with his mother, stepfather, and aunts, he dropped out of high school and lived homeless on the streets of Detroit for two years. While he was still in the streets, he met a minister who inspired him, and he successfully convinced him to return to school. He went back to attain his Bachelor’s degree from Oakwood University Huntsville, Alabama, where he also began preaching and working with at-risk youth.
After graduating, he got a job at Olive Garden on the West Side of Detroit. It was around this time that he met his wife De-De Mosley At Seventh-day Adventist Church. They were married as college students and they are still together.
In the year 2003, he got a job with Michigan State University to complete his master’s degree. He worked as an academic advisor to the less fortunate students at MSU. At MSU he came up with an undergraduate retention program known as Advantage. It was made to target the academically high-risk minority students. He attained his master’s degree from MSU and later in 2015, he obtained a Ph.D. in Education Administration.
Before the Internet turned him into an international sensation, he was trying to inspire single mothers and drug dealers to continue with their education and find a way out of the financial crisis. He founded a non-profit organization to further his aims of motivating the younger generation. YouTube turned him into a sensation when he uttered a memorable line during one of his speeches. He said,” When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe then you will be successful.” A tech-savvy student was recording his speech and he uploaded it to YouTube. The third one is identifying where your competitive edge is, and what you have that is unique from the others.
The fourth one reminds you to always remember that you are on trial, so you need to keep on proving yourself and you should never be self-satisfied.
The last one, you have to yearn for success like it’s something you can’t live without. When you do all the five philosophies, you will be in a position to take the opportunities that life has to offer.
